Teaching American History: Ties That Bind

STANDARDS, SOURCES AND SOLUTIONS

The Fourth Year of the Teaching American History program “Ties That Bind” will focus on the new Colorado Standards in History.  The adoption of new standards in December, 2009 has altered the manner in which history instruction is to be delivered in the state. As a result, many teachers from pre-school through 12th grade face adjusting and modifying their instruction to meet new grade-level requirements in historical thinking and the use of primary sources.

“Standards, Sources and Solutions” is intended to assist in that process by clarifying the new standards and by providing “hands-on” experience in the use and manipulation of a variety of primary sources to include documents, art, photographs, maps, art and artifacts. Teachers will depart each program session with ideas, materials and primary sources they can “plug into” their classrooms immediately.
